POKOTABI / Fukagawa Yakiniku Horumon Kura Monzen-Nakacho-ten
深川焼肉ホルモン蔵 門前仲町店
Savor thick-cut harami steak towers, wholesaler-selected offal, and Niigata-grown Akidawara rice cooked to order, paired with drinks served in kettles at Fukagawa Yakiniku Horumon Kura in Monzen-Nakacho.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
For an unpretentious evening gathered around a tabletop grill, Fukagawa Yakiniku Horumon Kura Monzen-Nakacho-ten is a dependable destination. The centrepiece of many orders is the Shodai Meibutsu Harami Tower, an eye-catching 300-gram salted stack of skirt steak. Thickly sliced yet tender, grilling this hearty cut over the mesh naturally keeps table conversation lively.
To balance the rich meat, the kitchen prepares freshly cooked Akidawara white rice from Niigata. Each batch of 2 go is steamed to order, taking about 25 minutes, so placing an order early while grilling the initial cuts ensures smooth timing. The plump, glossy grains are a natural match for sauce-coated meats, and any uneaten rice can thoughtfully be packed up as rice balls to take home.
The restaurant's signature Kura Horumon features large intestine selected by wholesale specialists, available in miso, salt, or spicy seasonings, with portions ranging from small to colossal depending on party size. Guests can also compare textures across cuts like domestic beef heart, tender cheek meat, and beef tongue served with scallions. Crisp side plates such as bean sprout namul and chilled green peppers meant for topping with grilled meat keep the palate fresh between richer bites.
The drink menu includes large-format lemon sours and fresh makgeolli poured from 1-litre and 2-litre kettles, keeping toasts flowing across larger tables. Beyond regular table seating, counter seats make stopping in solo 2 comfortable as well. Reservations are accepted, making it straightforward to secure a spot ahead of peak dinner hours and weekends.
